The Survivor

The Survivor

co-written with Chelsea Garrett

He fit nine lives into one
He’s an old soul an’ a hired gun
He has more story than time to tell
And all his dead friends – think he’s in hell

He traded youth for his father’s dreams
An’ fought two wars on land and sea
Much of his soul is an empty well
And all his dead friends – think he’s in hell

They say we must die to redeem our souls
But who are they and how would they know?

He outlived two wives and three sons
The four seasons and six guns
Hoping to die under redemption’s spell
And all his dead friends – think he’s in hell

Now he holds his final breath
On a bed of peace and graciousness
A humble merchant with nothing to sell
And all of his dead friends – think he’s in hell
